objects
Materials/objects: goldwork, silver vessels,
hematite weights
Chronological range of objects: LCIB-III, possibly
used no later than IIC
Tomb type and status: chamber tomb, status
uncertain
Additional information: a deep pit grave
seems to have been dug into one side of the tomb floor in which the
1900 publication states that all of the grave goods were found. The
notebook lists a large amount of pottery (Late Helladic and Cypriot
including Base Ring II, Red Lustrous Wheelmade, plain wares) but
the 1900 publication states that no pottery was found. Additional
goldwork, faience fragments, fragmentary silver and bronze
jewellery, bronze knives.
Tomb 93
Contents: 214 registered
objects, 143 are from the 1897 sequence and 71 from the 1900
sequence. It is not possible to be certain how many of the 1900
objects (all gold or gold-mounted seals) are from Tomb 93 but some
certainly are (see notes on registration sequence) so they have
been catalogued as ‘Tomb 93 probably’.
Materials/objects: goldwork and gold scrap,
silver jewellery, cornelian and faience beads, glass, scarab,
cylinder seals, Minoan prism seal, Late Helladic and Cypriot
pottery and figurines
Chronological range of objects: LCIA-III, probably
used no later than IIC
Tomb type and status: chamber tomb,
disturbed
Additional information: even without the 1900
sequence objects, Tomb 93 remains the wealthiest tomb every
excavated at Enkomi. Some of the gold and sherds were found in the
dromos and the door sealing stones were missing. The notebook
states that ‘the bones and antiquities were all mixed up with the
earth and rocks in the tomb’. One White Slip bowl was found
containing 10 gold strips. Fragmentary amber and faience beads and
silver fragments are the only items in the notebook not registered
but there is no mention of other items, including glass and
terracottas, or any pottery other than the Pictorial krater sherd
found in the dromos.
