Legacies
Leave a lasting gift to the world
In 1753, a legacy from Sir Hans Sloane led to the founding of the British Museum. Today, legacies are as important as ever in helping us to keep the Museum’s collection freely accessible to the world.
The British Museum is a charity that relies on funding from a wide range of sources including generous individuals. Remembering the British Museum by leaving a gift, no matter what size, in your Will can have a significant and lasting impact on our work and allow us to continue our mission to display and preserve the works of humankind for all to enjoy.
A gift to the British Museum’s Fund for the Future will enable the Museum to continue its excellence for future generations. Your gift can ensure that for years to come visitors and scholars will continue to understand the past: by growing the collection to include the objects which tell the stories of how people live today; by inspiring young people and adults through our learning and engagement programmes; and by supporting the loan of the Museum’s collections to other Museums across the UK and internationally.
If you would like to acknowledge the pleasure that the British Museum has given you and many others by making a legacy in your Will, we would be happy to talk to you about how your gift could benefit the Museum in the future.
