What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

Also known as



Son of Zeus/Jupiter (q.v.) and Europa (q.v.) and king of Crete; following his retention of the beautiful bull sent by Poseidon/Neptune (q.v.), his wife, Pasiphae (q.v.), having mated with the animal, gave birth to the Minotaur (q.v.). In the Underworld he serves as a judge of the dead with his brother Rhadamantus (q.v.), and Aeacus.
