Naval officer and draughtsman who was involved in the exploration of Cyrene in 1861 with Sir Robert Murdoch Smith (q.v.) while serving on HMS Hibernia. Joined four year voyage aboard HMS Fly to Australia in the 1840s and, rising to the rank of Commander in 1862, commanded the HMS Sparrowhawk in British Columbia 1865-8. The surgeon on the Sparrowhawk was Peter Comrie (q.v.), also 1865-8.
Porcher was the author of 'By Seaways to Cyrene'.
