- Firm of embossers, print publishers and 'ornamental stationers to the King' (see Alfred Whitman, 'Nineteenth Century Mezzotinters: Samuel William Reynolds" (London: George Bell & Sons, 1903), (cat.no. 28), active throughout the 19th century in a series of partnerships. Founded by Henry Dobbs at 8 New Bridge Street; later known as Dobbs, Dobbs & Pratt, Dobbs & Co., Dobbs, Bailey & Co., and Dobbs, Kidd & Co. Closely involved with the embossing firm of Whiting & Branston. Trade card in Heal Collection (Heal,111.52) and identical card in Banks Collection (D,2.589) advertise "Dobbs and Company, Manufacturers, Patent Writing Paper & Stationers, New Bridge Street Blackfriars."
