- Biography
- Officer; collector of prints, drawings and paintings; joined the Gardes Françaises in 1735, becoming lieutenant in 1759, resigning in 1761; Knight of the Order of Saint-Louis, 1746. For financial reasons had to sell his collection: part of his paintings in 1764, prints in 1774, shells and minerals in 1779, and finally his estate in 1781; from 1785, ruined, he lived in the Invalides; the remaining works from collections were sold in Paris in 1803.
He was a friend of J G Wille (who mentions him in his diary from 1760), who engraved plates after some of his paintings. Portrayed by Greuze (q.v.) in 1765.
