What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

Ernest Abraham Hart (medical; collector; journalist/critic; British; Male; 1835 - 1898)

Surgeon, dean of St Mary's Hospital medical school (1863-8), medical journalist; editor of the British Medical Journal from 1867 until death. Formed a collection of Japanese paintings and prints, many of which were purchased by the Museum from his widow (q.v.). Other pieces formerly in his collection entered through various sources.
