What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

Army officer and collector. He presented a large collection of Asian arms and Greek, Roman and Egyptian antiquities and playing-cards to the museum in 1878, the same year he sold a number of Oceanian objects to the BM; cousin of Sir Samuel Rush Meyrick (q.v.) whose collection he inherited and later sold (Pictures, Water-Colour Drawings, Engravings, etc., Christie's, 23.xi.1872).
