Biography

Son of City financier and politician Sir John Barnard (q.v.) whose fortune he inherited, and spent on amassing an immensely important collection of drawings and prints.
Sales: drawings, Greenwood 16 February 1787 (8 days); prints, Phillips 16 April 1798 (26 days); paintings, Christie's 7-8 June 1799. His daughter married the musician and collector Jan Chalon and became the mother of Henry Barnard Chalon and Carolina Susanna who married the dealer Christian Josi (qq.v.)
