- Biography
- Illustrator, designer, caricaturist, medallist and painter. Born in Toulouse, France and initially studied law at Toulouse University and then spent three years at the Art School there, followed by further studies at Académie Julian, Paris. In 1905 he moved to London to work on several periodicals including the Pall Mall Magazine. Took British naturalisation in 1912. A versatile artist he produced designs for theatrical costumes and scenery, designs for medals, banknotes and stamps. His illustrations for fine books included Edgar Allen Poe's ' The Bells and Other Poems'; 1932, Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Treasure Island', 1927 and Pushkin's 'The Golden Cockerel', 1950. His work is held in several public collections. He married, 1903, Alice May de Marini and in 1911, Elsa Arnalice Bignardi (q.v.) and lived in London. The Mappin Art Gallery , Sheffield held a centenary exhibition, which toured, 1982-3. His name recorded in the P&D visitors' book.
