What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

Henry Stevens of Vermont (1819-1886) settled in England in the mid 1840s and set up as a bookseller specialising in Americana and selling to great collectors such as Pierpont Morgan, Henry Huntington, William Folger. The business was continued by his son Henry Newton Stevens (1855-1930); grandson, Henry Stevens, and great-grandson Henry Robert Peter Stevens; Robert Stiles (1869-1937) became a partner c.1905.
