Curator's comments
This is one from a series of forty-five engravings by Franz Ertinger illustrating the museum catalogue of the St Genevieve library, firstly published in Paris in 1692. Seven of these engravings are double-page plates showing the interiors of the rooms in which the collection was housed. The remaining plates depict the objects in the collection (coins, gems, cameos, amulets and talismans; some of them now at the Bibliothèque Nationale). The BM has four plates in its collection (plates 2,3,4 and 7), for these plates see also 1871,1209.2615-2618.
