Asahi 1996

完成画にある柳下亭種員の文章が記すとおり、薄雪姫が恋人薗部佐衛門の後を無謀にも追いかける姿を描いたもの。被衣に市女笠、杖と旅装をととのえ、木津の船着き場にさしかかったところ。渡し守は驚いて頭を掻いている。上部の和歌は曾禰
好忠による「由良のとをわたるふな人かぢをたへ行えもしらぬ恋のみちかな」である。

特に着物と市女笠の描線は自由に曲線を描いているが、広重は最終的に線をまとめようとしている。きちんとした版下絵は最低もう一枚描くことになったであろう。版下絵は桜の版木に裏返して貼りつけられ、掘りの工程で失われるものであった。
