Description:
The project seeks to reconstruct,
contextualise and interpret the coinage produced in the Roman
provinces, from the death of Julius Caesar (44 B.C.) to the reign
of Diocletian (AD 284-305).
Objectives:
The project aims to provide a reliable and full reconstruction
of Roman provincial coinage by collecting material from 10
international ‘core collections’, supplemented by much material
from private collections and auction catalogues. It will
contextualise the reconstruction in terms of Roman imperial and
local histories, while exploring the balance between central and
local control.
