Conference to mark 150 years of the British Museum Department of Coins and Medals
The British Museum Department of Coins and
Medals will mark its 150th birthday with a conference on the future
of numismatics.
It was in 1860 that the Museum trustees decided to divide up the Department of Antiquities and create a new Department of Coins and Medals.
The 150th anniversary of the founding of the department will be marked by a conference on the subject of UK museums and the future of numismatics. It will be held at the British Museum on Friday 18 February 2011.
