mirror / handle

Top of bronze mirror-handle decorated with gorgoneion-type face in relief; the narrow, square-sectioned tang tapers upwards ending in a short incised moulding doubling as the neck of the figure; the face is a flat plate curving inwards into the arc of the round mirror; grinning, fleshy face with curly hair extend to ears; teeth marked as simpple incisions; floral pattern in spandrals between hair and arc of mirror; object now mounted on a wooden block and supported by a steel springed rod inserted into the base of the plate.
