Issue 2: February 2002

Issue 2 of BMSAES (British Museum Studies in Ancient Egypt and Sudan) brings into focus one of the great advantages of online publication, the lack of need for a 'critical mass' of material. Only one article was ready for publication, but nonetheless, we have produced an issue consisting just of the one paper.

A conventional print journal has to contain a certain minimum amount of copy for it to be a remotely economical proposition to publish, even if the usual problem confronting most editors is an excess of contributions!

We decided at the beginning that the critical mass need be as little as one paper. I believe it is more important to publish it rapidly than to wait until more is ready.
