ostrogothic coinage research project

This catalogue brings together the British Museum's collection of over 300 coins minted by Odovacar and the Ostrogoths who ruled Italy from the fall of the western Roman Empire to the end of the Gothic Wars when the Emperor Justinian reconquered the territories of the Italian peninsula. The introductory essays provide a general outline of the history of this period and assists with the identification of the types minted. The online format will allow for catalogue entries to be updated to reflect current research.
