Edfu under the Twelfth to Seventeenth Dynasties: The monuments
in the National Museum of Warsaw
Marcel Marée
The National Museum of Warsaw is home to an
important collection of epigraphic material from Edfu, excavated
and purchased by French and Franco-Polish expeditions in the course
of the 1930s. The finds are of considerable interest but remain
comparatively unknown, as publications have been few and on the
whole quite inaccessible. The fourteen stelae and offering tables
presented are from the Twelfth to Seventeenth Dynasties, and all
have been newly photographed. Their re-examination throws fresh
light on many aspects of social history as well as artistic
production. The objects are discussed in chronological order, in
context with associated monuments.
