Watermark: fragmentary flower on right margin

Text from Popham & Pouncey 1950 (with updated literature):
Clark connects this drawing with the studies of legs and bones at Windsor (no. 12625; Quaderni, v, 22) and other drawings of the same type, drawn on the same pink ground, which can be dated about 1504. Frizzoni (loc. cit.) believes the inscription has reference to the pubes, but the first line was not legible in the photograph on which he relied. The note is obviously of the same character as those on Windsor no. 12625.

Literature: BB 1031; Bodmer 302; Popham 235; Frizzoni, Raccolta Vinciana, vi (1910), p. 102; Clark, Windsor, under nos. 12416, 12625. A.E. Popham, in exhib. cat., London, Royal Academy, 'Leonardo da Vinci quincentenary exhibition', 1952, no. 165; H. Chapman and M. Faietti, exhib. cat., BM, London, `Fra Angelico to Leonardo: Italian Renaissance Drawings`, 2010, no. 57, pp.220-1 (cat. entry by H. Chapman).
