Entry from 'Dürer and his Legacy' exh.cat. 2002-3, no.85:
This small print can be considered as Dürer's response to the engraving of Jacopo de' Barbari's Apollo and Diana (Bartsch, VII, 523, 16; BM 1895,0915.89) which is only slightly larger in size. The proximity of the head of Diana to that of the goddess in Dürer's drawing, 'Venus riding on a dolphin', dated 1503, in the Albertina, Vienna (Strauss 1503/ 1) gives an indication of date.
