Another view of Covent Garden, similar to that of G,6.25, by Thomas Sandby was exhibited in the Spink Annual exhibition, 23 April - 18 May 1990, see cat no.22, 'The Piazza, Covent Garden.' Sandby produced a number of views of Covent Garden, most likely for his lectures on architectural draughtsmanship at the Royal Academy. Thomas Sandby was Professor of Architecture at the Royal Academy from 1770 onwards and gave six lectures a year. His skill and interest in this subject is most evident throughout the majority of his works, as noted from other examples in the British Museum collection.
See G,6.24,25 & 26, for other drawings of the Covent Garden piazza by Thomas Sandby.
