What just happened?

To celebrate Vikings Live, we have replaced our Roman alphabet with the runic alphabet used by the Vikings, the Scandinavian ‘Younger Futhark’. The ‘Younger Futhark’ has only 16 letters, so we have used some of the runic letters more than once or combined two runes for one Roman letter.

For an excellent introduction to runes, we recommend Martin Findell’s book published by British Museum Press.

    Treatment proposal

    Lift, inlay (strip), mount together, 4 ply solid perspex verso, 38 above 39. stamp mount.

    Condition

    The drawings were guarded into a mount with two apertures.

    Treatment details

    The drawings were lifted from the mount. They were inlaid by the Japanese strip method and mounted in a 4 ply solid mount with a Perspex verso, one above the other. The mount was stamped.
