Reason for treatment
Remount to just outside outer pen line. Photograph recto and verso and mount.
Adhered overall to washborder consisting of blue paper which in turn is lined to mottled cream discoloured paper.Drawing is surrounded by a frame of dark brown ink lines and a gold coloured strip of paper.Presence of ink underneath B/R corner indicates that the corner had been adhered in the past.Drawing is discoloured and covered by brown foxmarks.
It was decided to abandon the treatment suggested initially.Solubility tests had shown the ink lines of the washborder and those applied to the edges of the drawing to be soluble in water. The lifting B/R corner and locally detached gold-coloured strip of foil were adhered using wheat starch paste. The drawing was mounted overthrow.
