This is an intermediate state between Bocher's 1st and 2nd state. It has burin work over the etched 1st state and the space between the frame lines are filled in with etching (cf illus. of 1st state in Jean-Richard 1558). See also under 1997-9-28-252. This impression is illustrated in Jean Furstenberg, 'La gravure originale dans l'illustration du livre illustré français au dixhuitième siècle', Hamburg 1975, plate 69.
