Cup; porcelain; cylindrical with waisted base and strap handle; painted in underglaze-blue with a variation of the 'Willow Root' pattern with plants and trees, a balustrade and a boat with a man fishing.

This piece was attributed to the Bow factory when it was acquired. However, a mug of similar form is shown in Branyan, French and Sandon, p. 43 though the precise pattern on this piece does not appear to be recorded.
Rim chipped with crack down body. 2nd shorter crack on rim. Footrim chipped.

Clean and consolidate crack
Hairline cracks, chip to rim, discoloured surface dust.
Steam cleaned using distilled water; run off dirt and water absorbed into soft tissue paper. Placed in an atmoshere of acetone and *ims* 50/50 in a glass desiccator to solvent dark material within break. Immersed in a solution of *Ariel* in tap water, followed by cotton wool swabs. Repeated using steam cleaner. Improved very slightly. Required for photography no time to do any further work.
