Reason for treatment
clean to remove chemical residues, dirt, tarnish
button broken into two fragments. gilding loose and flaking underlying metal very granular as a result of chemical treatment.
consolidated gilding with a 2.5% solution of Paraloid B72 in acetone. readhered fragments with HMG cellulose nitrate adhesive.
