Reason for treatment
clean to remove chemical residues, dirt and tarnish
lacquered. blue crystal residues from previous chemical treatment. tarnished. dirty. metalic structure highly granular from chemical stripping, and gilding lifting. one button broken at loop and readhered previously
Immersed in acetone to remove lacquer and dirt. swabbed or immersed in water and IMS to remove blue crystals, dried with acetone. not all the crystals could be removed.consolidated powdery areas and fragile gilding with a 2.5% solution of Paraloid B72 in acetone. The tarnish on gilding of objects with a sound surface was removed with silvo on cotton wool swabs and residues removed by swabbing with white spirit
