Examine, x-ray, clean, stabilise, repair and repack as necessary
The object is in good condition overall. It is covered with sand from excavation. It has mineralised wood and leather remains present which are fragile. The rivet is complete.
The object was examined under the microscope at up to x40 magnification.It was cleaned using a scalpel under magnification to remove the soil. The object was packed in plastazote and stored with silica gel as a desiccant in a sealed stewart box.
Finds were discovered during the archaeological excavations before the Visitor Centre was constructed. The National trust donated all of the finds to the British Museum.
