  • Curator's comments

This is the first frontispiece to a series of forty-eight plates depicting insects, fruits and flowers, devided in four parts of twelve plates (each with separate frontispiece), made and published by Jacob Hoefnagel (Hollstein 17-64) after studies by his father, Joris Hoefnagel. For the four parts and their frontispieces, see 1860,0310.4.1-52. The engravings were published by Hoefnagel himself in 1592 in Frankfurt. The four frontispieces to the four parts are undescribed.
