- Edition 70. Printed at Kelpra Studio, London. Illustrated in Kinsman p.108.
Label text from: 2013, May - Sept, BM, 'Recent Acquisitions'
This print is one of Kitaj's last major screenprints made with Chris Prater at Kelpra.
It is a composite of many images culled from the artist's previous works. The central figure is from the print 'Cutie' (R175;1974), with a paper bag replacing her skirt. The female profile from the print 'Orgasm' (R197;1975) and the seafarer 'Cap'n A.B. Dick' (R196;1975) also appear. The title is from the 1928 book by H.L. Gates which was made into a silent film. The bookseller's list of 'Unusual Books' listed lower left, must have amused Kitaj, a further hint at his playful side.
