Shashin Salon was the leading amateur magazine of the pre-war era. It was not confined to any particular photographic style, club, or movement. The publisher Genko-sha had been founded by Kitahara Masao as a rival to ARS. Shashin Saron ran until December 1940 when it was merged with Camera Club and thereafter published under the name Shashin Bunka (see item 133). The monthly magazine includes important contributions by Fukuhara Shinzo, Fukuhara Roso, Nishiyama Kiyoshi, Takayama Masataka, Kakefuda Isao, Matsugi Fumio, Koishi Kiyoshi, Yasui Nakaji, Ueda Shoji, as well as a host of other amateur photographers from all over the country. Cover and layout by Onchi Koshiro. No copy in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
