Asahi Camera was founded by Narusawa Reisen (1877-1962) in April 1926. It was in many ways related to the efforts by Asahi News to consolidate the large number of amateur photography societies, groups and clubs under the umbrella organization of the All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies (Zen Nihon Shashin Renmei) in December 1926. Asahi Camera was not constrained by any particular photographic genre but focussed on practical and educational issues within any given tendency, be it amateur, professional, or commercial. It is still in print making it the oldest surviving Japanese photography magazine. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
