Shashin geppo (Photography Monthly)
- Shashin geppo (Photography Monthly)
Photography magazine, The Second Series. 190 issues (lacking five numbers). Numerous collotype plates and illustrations. Japanese text. 8vo. Original wrappers.
- Published in: Tokyo-to
An almost complete set of the second series of this important amateur photographic magazine published during the Taisho and Showa period. Originally founded by Sugiura Rokuemon, (owner of Konishi Honten) in February 1894, the magazine absorbed 'Shashin no Shumi' in 1924 and a new series was started. This periodical showcases important work of the Tokyo Photographic Research Society. For over three years the photographer and critic Kometani Koro (1889-1947) contributed a complete history of Japanese Photography from its beginning to the modern period, which still ranks as the most authoritative and detailed survey of the various artistic movements to have been published in Japan. For example, he reviewed the public's reactions to works like Fukuhara's ‘Paris & la Seine’ and ‘Shoka-Shinkei’ by Koishi. Very rare. One copy in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
