- Shimabara Unzen zue (Pictures of Shimabara and Unzen)
Photobook, one volume, first edition. One foldout map, numerous photographic plates (several tipped-in and fold-out) and illustrations bound with facing tissue guards. Japanese text, captions in English and Japanese. Folio. Original decorated leather binding with leather application on top board.
- Published in: Nagasaki-shi
This work follows on from the 'Souvenir du Nagasaki' to cover the city's surrounding countryside. Again a variety of papers and printing styles are used to great effect. If anything, there is even more of an emphasis on artistic expression than in the previous volume. Moody scenes in the style of Shiotani Teikoh prevail. This publication ranks amongst the best expression of the 'shashin geijutsu' movement in Japan. No copy in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
