- Curator's comments
- In December 1926 the All-Kanto and the All-Kansai Associations of Photographic Societies joined forces, uniting some four-hundred amateur societies under a new national umbrella organization called the All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies (Zen Nihon Shashin Renmei). They held their first International Photographic Salon exhibition in May 1927, sponsored by Asahi Newspaper and continued annually thereafter. Akiyama Tetsuzuke, Fukuhara Shinzo, Ezaki Kiyoshi, and Ishida Kiichiro, were members of the selection committee, choosing some 300-400 works each year from thousands of International submissions. “Political and racial differences are of earth, and earthy, and shall rot with what is mortal of us. The essence of glory, the soul of men surviving shall have neither difference nor division into classes” (Foreword to vol. 3). A rare set in very good condition. Only one copy of vol. 1 in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
