- Curator's comments
- This magazine was published by a little known publisher which was affiliated to the Seicho-kai (Blue Bird club), a literary club focusing on Romanticism. It includes popular photographers such as Kono Ryutaro (1892-1968), and Kikuchi Toyo (1883-1939). Kikuchi had studied under Maruki Riyo (1854-1923), went to USA in 1904 to set up a photo studio, studied at Eastman Kodak and returned to Japan where he founded the Oriental Photo Industrial Co. (Orientaru Shashin Kogyo) This company became legendary in the history of Japanese photography. Hamaya Hiroshi and Watanabe Yoshio were amongst the important photographers worked there when they were young. The present magazine must have been very costly to produce. It is complete in three issues. Very rare. No copy in Diet Library. No copy in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
