- Curator's comments
- The Koha Society was founded by Hirai Masayoshi in Kobe in 1921. He became the president and was the editor of the present monumental publication, which looks back on three years of the group's activities and includes the manifest of the Society. The images document the group's transition from pictorialism to more modern trends and includes photos by Arai Minoru, Aoyama Shunsetsu, Yamazaki Torakichi, as well as a number of photographers from the United States (Margret Watkins, Sophie L. Lauffer, Thomas O. Sheckel). It is a rarissima item and not referred to in any reference book on the history of Japanese photography. No copy in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
