Photographic magazine; first edition. Folding frontispiece and 200 photographic plates. Japanese text. Oblong folio. Original decorated flexible boards
- Published in: Osaka-shi
This is the second volume of Shashin Shuho (not to be confused with the propaganda magazine with a similar pronunciation, 1938-45) published by the Osaka Asahi Newspaper. Two-hundred works were selected from contributions throughout Kansai. It documents the strength and dedication of amateur photography in the region and is a tribute to the early commitment of the Asahi Newspaper Company who became a leading sponsor of photography during the 1920s. In November 1922 they organized the first Tenkyukai exhibition in Osaka. In 1923 they launched Asahi Graph which became one of Japan’s major pictorial magazines. In 1925 they sponsored the formation of two large umbrella organizations (All-Kansai and All-Kanto Association of Photographic Societies) bringing together most of the amateur groups in Japan. This in turn coincided with the launch of Asahi Camera, a comprehensive magazine catering to all tastes. No copy in OCLC. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
