Curator's comments
Room 95 label text: PDF B631 Dish with figures in a landscape Potters achieved a new purity of porcelain clay and a new delicacy in vessel shapes at the imperial kilns in the Chenghua era. Improvements were made in the preparation of the cobalt so that the underglaze blue designs appear more even than in earlier periods. Outside this dish is painted with three scenes: three gentlemen in a garden landscape, an elegant building enveloped in clouds and two small boys with a zither. The scenes are separated by various trees. Inside is a roundel with the Three Friends of Winter.
