Blue-and-white jar with flowers
The Xuande emperor ruled China for just ten years in an era of relative social stability and economic prosperity, which led to great creativity in the arts and experimentation at Jingdezhen with different shapes and decorative styles. Literally millions of porcelain table wares and ritual vessels were made. The kilns’ output was staggering in terms of quantity but also with regard to quality of glaze and variety of forms. The jar has a six-character Xuande reign mark on the base in a double ring.
