Brush-washer and water porer in the form of a lychee
Potters made this delicate brush washer in the form of a lychee attached to a halved lychee with applied leaves and stalk. The top of the lychee is pierced and has a rectangular panel at the centre with Chinese characters. These have been read 細 傳 香玉液高 唱白雲詞 (xi chuan xiang yu ye gao chang bai yun ci 'Gently tip the perfume out into the perfect night and declaim the White Cloud poem'). Water could be poured through the openwork in the top and poured out through the spout to mix with solid ink. The silver liner lined the halved lychee for washing calligraphy brushes.
