Cup or brush-washer in the form of a halved peach
Highly plastic iron-rich pottery clay and coarse sand were used for the bodies of Shiwan wares. Indigenous Shiwan sand was mixed with imported grey clay, most of which came from Dongguan which had been exporting its clay since Ming times. Vessels were either biscuit fired or covered in thick unctuous glazes such as this peach shaped vessel.
