Bowl with iron-red glaze
Connoisseurs in China, Europe and Japan have developed a sophisticated vocabulary for describing monochrome porcelains. For example this bowl is described as ‘coral-red’. The single hue glaze is coloured by iron-pigment. The bowl has had two firings once to fix the Yongzheng emperor’s underglaze blue reign mark and the transparent glaze and a lower temperature firing for the colour.
