Dish with blue-tinged glaze
Inside, potters carved a design of a formalised lotus scroll radiating from the outline of a flower with the character 壽 (shou ‘longevity’) in the centre. Outside is a band of lotus petals. The whole vessel is covered with a light, cobalt-pigmented blue-tinged glaze sometimes called by the nineteenth century French connoisseur’s term clair de lune, or in Chinese 天青(tianqing ‘blue-green of the sky’).
