Bowl with celadon glaze
The Yongzheng emperor is known for his fascination with antiques. He had a fabulous collection of Chinese bronzes, jades, ceramics, painting and calligraphies and decorative art objects. These bowls combine a contemporary 18th century form with the glaze of Song dynasty celadons, recreated on a porcelain body. This combination of an interest in the antique and a desire to experiment and create something new is a fundamental part of Chinese culture. The base carries an underglaze cobalt blue Yongzheng reign mark.
