Bowl with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl
This bowl is incised with two five-clawed dragons, shown in profile with clenched jaws, chasing flaming pearls and each other amid auspicious ruyi clouds. The base has a four-character inscription reading (Qinghua zhenping ‘clear and beautiful precious object’) in underglaze cobalt-blue on the base. The inside and base is covered with a transparent glaze. It was given a second lower temperature firing after potters picked out the dragon and cloud design in green glaze on a ground of yellow. Potters working at Jingdezhen, in the Yongle reign (AD 1403–24) invented this green and yellow colour scheme and design.
