Bowl with blossoming branches
Ming emperors appear to have favoured bright, colourful, schemes for their buildings, costumes and furnishings. Potters fired most of the Ming and Ming style porcelains twice. This bowl painted with blossoming branches has colours applied directly to the biscuit-fired porcelain body. This lends the enamels a darker hue than those first coated with a layer of glaze and fired before the enamels were added and the piece was fired again. The base has a six-character underglaze cobalt-blue apocryphal Jiajing reign mark.
