Description
Glass brush-pot of tall cylindrical form with flat base. The brush pot is thick milky-white opaque glass. There is a group of the seven sages and two servants, where four of the sages are seated with one servant looking on holding 'lingzhi' plants, in mixed enamel on the exterior.

Room 95 label text: PDF 854 Brush pot with a group of five wise men with three students. Jesuit missionaries residing within the Forbidden City brought with them Western technologies such as enamelling glass. The brush pot has a four-character Qianlong mark incised within a double square on the base, possibly originally filled in with blue green enamel.
