Longquan ware porcelain dish with rim pierced with two pairs of holes mounted with copper alloy loop handles in floret-shaped fittings. The dish has a pale grey body and transparent greyish-green glaze. There are two fish in applied relief in the centre of the interior, and overlapping lotus petals carved on the exterior.

Dish with moulded fish
This dish has two moulded fish applied beneath the celadon glaze. Chinese people regard paired fish as a rebus (visual pun) for abundance as the words for both fish 魚 and abundance 餘, are pronounced yu. The dish was originally fired with two holes on each side of the rim – presumably for metal handles. The original thirteenth century handles are lost. These handles were fitted in Japan in the Meiji period (AD1868–1912).
